RYA certificates are a significant achievement. Instructors sign off each skill as you complete it. Once completed, your certificate can be of use in other areas of your study such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Youth Sailing Stage 1
This is an introduction to sailing. At this stage you will learn Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing. At the end of this stage you will be able to steer and understand basic principles of sailing.
Youth Sailing Stage 2
At this stage you will learn basic sailing skills, rope work, collision avoidance. At the end of this stage you will be able to tack and control boat speed, and understand basic principles of sailing.
Who are these courses for?
For anyone aged between 8 - 16, although at UTSC the younger age limit is at the discretion of the lead Instructor.
How are the courses structured?
All courses will have some theory and lots of practical on-the-water tuition and practice.
What certificates or experience do I need to do these courses?
At Upper Thames, if you do not have a certificate, we will see what stage you are at and teach you at the right level or stage for you. You will then get the certificate that shows what stage you have reached at the end of the course.

What does it cost?
Each course lasts two days and costs £80. Levels 1 and 2 can be completed consecutively over the week and costs £160
Booking for all courses closes 7 days before the start.
Non members pay an extra £28 refundable if they join the club in the same year
