RYA Adult Start to Sail (Levels 1 & 2)

What is it?

Start to Sail Level 1 provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. By the end of this part of the course participants will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge. Level 2, Basic Skills builds on skills learned in level 1 to enable participants to sail confidently without input from an instructor. You will learn to rig and launch a dinghy, sail a traingular course and come alongside safely.The successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light winds. The students’ knowledge and ability will be assessed on a continuous basis. They will be kept informed of their individual progress throughout the course.  


Who is it for?

Anyone over 16 who wants to learn how to sail. Please note that training is intended primarily for UTSC members but we welcome beginners from outside the club for a small additonal charge on our sailing courses; 


How is the course structured?

Presentations, discussion and supervised tuition on the water.  


Do I need to have any qualifications or experience to come on this course?

No, this course is for complete novices who want to sail. You should be able to swim.

What does it cost?

The level 1 & 2 courses each last two days and costs £100 (£200 for both levels).  

Booking for all courses closes 7 days before the start.

Non members pay an extra £25 refundable if they join the club in the same year
