Sailing Groups
Sailors will be split into 3 groups based upon age and/or experience

•Sharks – This will comprise the more experienced sailors.

Racing and potentially some coaching will be provided for this group
There will be two groups of less experienced sailors based on age.

These cut offs are not strict and the groups will be finally defined when we have the list of entries.

•Dolphins

Typically, these will be children older than seven. This group will have an introduction to sailing.

•Starfish

Typically, these will be the youngest children – typically six and under. They will predominantly have shore based activities but will have some sailing time each day.

Team Games

Each sailor will also be allocated to a coloured team which will be composed of a mix of Sharks, Dolphins and Starfish. The older children lead these teams in a variety of team games and activities which the younger team members can choose to be a part of as they see fit. These range from treasure hunts to Topper relay races.

Equipment

Boats – Club owned and privately owned boats belonging to members will be used and UTSC will be hiring extra boats for the event but if you have a boat which you intend to bring then please state on the entry form. We spend significant ammounts on sourcing additional boats for the event including hire and collection costs. An entry discount of £15 is offered to anyone who brings a Feva, Topper or Optimist with them.

Registration Fee  - Regtration Fee is £33 per child. Entry is open to children who are members of UTSC either directly or part of a "Family Pack" membership.

Condition of Entry – Parental Supervision – We absolutely do not offer a crèche facility, and parents/guardians must remain on site at all times or have arranged a suitable adult or guardian to be able to supervise children in their absence.

Buoyancy Aids are required for all children and it is important that they fit well.  If you do not own one you can hire one that is the right size for £20 from UTSC for the duration of JBEW.  You must sign up for this in advance.

Condition of Particioation

Parental Supervision – We absolutely do not offer a crèche facility, and parents/guardians must remain on site at all times or have arranged a suitable adult or guardian to be able to supervise children in their absence.

Volunteers – Junior Bourne End Week is organised and run entirely by volunteers. We need the support of the parents/guardians of participating children to make the event happen. There are various on and off the water tasks that must be completed both before during and after the event. We will contact you to see how you can assist.

Camping - is available at £15 a plot for the duration of JBEW. Children who are camping must be supervised by their parents/guardians.

Catering – Breakfast, Lunch and Supper will be available on each day. You can book meals on Sign up Day. Otherwise you will be contacted by a member of the team with further details regarding catering arrangements following confirmation of your place.

Daily Registration will be required so that we know that your child has arrived at UTSC. This will involve a parent/guardian signing the child in and out. Each child will be assigned a wrist band to wear during Junior Bourne End Week. This is to be returned at the end of sailing each day or when a child leaves the sailing club if earlier.

It is for the parent/guardian to decide whether the child is fit to sail in the conditions in which they will find themselves. Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the parents/guardians nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the taking part in Junior Bourne End Week. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the race and the event, and include Upper Thames Sailing Club and its various volunteers.
